Final Fantasy X (Super-Nostalgia) and Elizabeth Redressed

So yesterday I finally started playing the Final Fantasy X HD remastered version for the PS3.  It's pretty bad that I haven't turned on my PS3 since I moved, so I had to change around all the wireless settings, and do a ton of updates to both the consoles firmware, and to the PSN store.  But at least I was doing laundry, so I had something better to do than just stare at the progress bar.

I have been playing video games - just very sporadically, and not on PS3.  Mostly I've been playing DOAX on my old X-Barn (because it's as big as one.  Ha?  Ha?  Where's pun dog when I need him?)  I've also been playing stuff on my computer, like the Sailor Moon RPG that was released for the Super Nintendo.  But, as far as my video game heart goes, Final Fantasy will always have a big chunk of it, even though recently, there hasn't been much to celebrate.

Final Fantasy VIII is my fave.  Because it's a time travel story, it's filled with plot holes the size of the Grand Canyon, but the world feels so alive.  I think it was the first time that towns and cities had any real scope.  I never FELT the size of Midgar in FFVII, but in all the cities and towns in VIII, you felt like there were dozens upon dozens of screens that you just weren't seeing, but that these towns were huge and vibrant.  It was also the first time you couldn't talk to pretty much every NPC.  Some people just blew past you because they were on their way somewhere.

FFX didn't have the same scope, but it wasn't meant to.  They purposely kept their towns 'quaint' feeling because of the teachings of Yevon.  Right now, I only just made it to Besaid, so I haven't even met Yuna yet.  I know a lot of people thought Yuna was really wimpy when they played the game, but once you learn the truth and go back and replay it, her inner strength is forged steel.  I adore her.  I even adore FFX-2, which got MAJOR hate when it came out.  I almost played FFX-2 first, actually.  Just because I wanted to PLAY it.  There are definitely some moments where you don't want other people to see you playing.  The opening sequence, or any of the singing sequences really, or anything having to do with Brother, make you feel like you got caught masturbating if someone else is in the room.  BUT, the game is so damn fun to play.  The Garment Grid is a really great way of leveling up.  I've almost gotten all the Dress Spheres maxed out for all the girls on other past playthroughs, but Mascot takes FOREVER.

Anyway, Elizabeth doesn't care much about video games - she's too busy trying to run her drug empire.  But, I don't really care, and she'll just have to suffer.  Or make some rival suffer since I am the Omnipotent Fucking God that controls her life.
