That's not a song title. Sometimes in a collector's life, you come to a point where there are certain objects in your collection that you have to part with. It's not because you hate them, but it might be to fund a new purchase, or because you just don't have that same connection anymore.
I know I'm not the only one that cannibalizes my collection to add MORE to the collection. Well, not 'more', I suppose. When you sell a doll to add one, it keeps the same number. I guess it's more like refreshing or recycling. A collection flows and changes, much like a person's personality. I started collecting Fashion Royalty dolls back in 2008. At that time, I was heavily collecting Barbie. Now I have zero Barbies, aside from the one that I use as a modeling measurement for knitting (since knitwear stretches, body types can vary more than sewing something tailored), and my collection has changed along with me. I'm not the same person I was back in 2008 - for better or for worse.
Phoebe, or Costume Drama Giselle, is considered a holy grail by most people. I think she's gorgeous, but honestly - when I looked at my collection and thought of things I could part with to pay for all the new shit I ordered, I realized that I could part with her. When you look at all your dolls and think about which ones you would save from a fire given the choice, it puts in perspective which ones are your real faves, and which ones you just like, or only have because they're a grail. I don't have any dolls just because they're grails. I play with my dolls, so that's really irrelevant, because once deboxed and taken outside for photo shoots and have had their hair played with, grails lose their 'value' (depending on how you think of that word in terms of collecting - I think all my dolls have great value because I get a lot of play out of them, but they may not have dollar value as a NRFB doll might)
So, I figured that Phoebe, and Zelda (Rock Me Baby Rayna - I like Rayna, but prefer her Latina, and this one is my least fave incarnation), would be better off at a loving new home, and I'd have the cash to fund other things - like all the shit in my pre-orders sidebar, or the upcoming convention fees. There is also the fact that I'm WAY more into FR than I am Nu.Face. I still have my Nu.Face girls that I love, but they aren't the focus of my collection. Just like even though I have a few Poppies coming my way, she'll never be the core and soul of my collection. But, Phoebe still gets one last hurrah in a cute outfit!
